It's debatable whether Tokyo is better than New York City. But, and maybe I'm just easily impressed, it is a good place to find big apples. This melon-sized one I found was so huge it came with its own polystyrene jacket so that it didn't bruise itself under its own weight!
Having said that. I'd have bought it even if it weren't for the novelty value. In the local 'supermarket' (three small aisles in total), I think I recognise perhaps 7 of the 50 or so fruit and veg on sale. The only potatoes are tangerine sized and sold in packs of three as if to say 'why would you need more?'
My phone, of course, doesn't work here. So it's only useful for acting as a ruler.
